About MGZ
MGZ is a progressive specialist employment law practice, based in the heart of Christchurch city. The firm holds a strong reputation within the Christchurch and South Island region and acts for clients nationally. In terms of its work, representing mainly employer clients but also some high net worth individual clients. The firm's clients span from large corporate clients, SME's, local government clients to high net worth individuals. You'd be exposed to working with clients across various industry sectors including healthcare, retail, infrastructure, education and logistics - therefore, there is plenty of variety on offer.
You'd work in a team of employment law experts - alongside two down to earth and supportive partners as well as two Associates. The team operates with a flat structure, where everyone is treated with respect and a collegial approach is taken.
About the Opportunity
In this role, you'd be able to operate with a good degree of autonomy in file and client management, with the support of the team. Day to day work could involve advising on and acting for clients in matters related to:
- employment contracts and policy matters
- performance management and disciplinary investigations
- restructuring and redundancy matters
- resolving PG claims
- collective bargaining
- privacy and confidentiality matters
- Human Rights Review Tribunal work
- Attending mediations, ERA and Employment Court as well as negotiating settlements for clients outside of Court.
- 8+ years PQE as an employment lawyer. If you're coming from a mixed practice area background (e.g employment law and litigation), or from an in-house legal environment, we'd still be interested to consider you.
- Strong client management and interpersonal skills.
- Commercially minded, pragmatic, with the ability to provide strategic advice to clients.
- The ability to contribute to the long-term success of the firm.
