The CoLegal brand is newly established in 2021 but our New Zealand legal recruitment business story began in 2016 as part of Cobalt Recruitment, a multinational recruitment brand specialising in legal, property and finance recruitment across 13 countries.

Cobalt opens its first New Zealand office in Auckland

CoLegal has it origins as Cobalt Recruitment which first opened a New Zealand office in 2009 where it specialised in property, infrastructure and professional services recruitment.
The business diversified in to legal recruitment

We took our first steps towards becoming a fully fledged legal recruitment specialist with the hire of a specialist consultant in our Christchurch office. We focused initially on recruiting professional and legal support staff for law firms where we quickly established a track record for delivering results. In 2017 Anand Ranchhod joined the business to spearhead the legal recruitment division for Cobalt.
The New Zealand business becomes locally owned

After eleven years with it's UK parent group the New Zealand business became a locally owned and operated entity. This was the beginning of a re-think in how we delivered our specialist recruitment service to our client and candidate markets which resulted in the legal division separating out to form it's own stand alone recruitment brand.
Out with the old, in with the new, CoLegal is launched!

In June 2021 we retired the Cobalt brand and launched two new specialist recruitment brands, CoLegal was launched as a pure play specialist legal recruitment brand.
