Senior Lawyer – Trusts & Estates
About the Role:
Our client seeks a Senior Lawyer to join their Private Client team, focusing on Trusts, Estates, Wills, and Enduring Powers of Attorney. This role requires a combination of strong technical skills, leadership, and the ability to mentor junior team members. The successful candidate will be key in guiding clients through complex legal matters with care and precision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Trusts: Advising clients on the creation, management, and administration of trusts, including handling trustee changes and conducting annual reviews.
- Estates & Family Disputes: Assisting executors and clients in resolving estate and family disputes, often working with barristers and other professionals to achieve the best outcomes.
- Wills: Drafting and updating wills that accurately reflect clients’ wishes while ensuring legal compliance.
- Enduring Powers of Attorney: Guiding clients through the process of establishing powers of attorney, from drafting documents to ensuring proper witnessing.
- Conveyancing & Occupation Right Agreements: Overseeing property transactions related to trusts and assisting clients with entry into retirement villages.
- AML Compliance: Ensuring all client information complies with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations.
- NZ Qualification: Must be New Zealand qualified and hold a current practising certificate.
- Experience: At least 6 years of PQE with a strong background in trust, estate planning, and property transactions.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead junior team members while contributing to the team's overall success.
- Client Relationship Management: A solid ability to build and maintain client relationships, paired with strong business and marketing skills.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills with the ability to connect with clients and provide support during challenging times.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in drafting legal documents and possessing a strong understanding of financial and legal intricacies.
